In a new video on his YouTube channel Justin Hawkins Rides Again, THE DARKNESS frontman Justin Hawkins addressed alternative singer Phoebe Bridgers's recent announcement that her upcoming "The Lost Tour" will be a phone-free experience.
Attendees will put their devices into their designated Yondr pouches to allow people to have possession of their phones, but not be able to use them in order to heighten the concert experience.
Justin Hawkins expressed his thoughts on phone-free concerts, stating that he understands the importance of creating an immersive atmosphere at shows.
However, he also acknowledges the impracticality and expense of implementing a phone-free policy for THE DARKNESS's own performances.
Hawkins shared personal anecdotes about attending other artists' shows, including GHOST's 2025 tour, where Yondr pouches were used to maintain a phone-free environment.
He praised the experience as "spectacular" but noted that he still feels the urge to film the show when surrounded by phones.
The THE DARKNESS frontman also referenced other acts, such as TOOL and IRON MAIDEN, who have employed similar approaches on their tours.
Hawkins believes that cutting down on illegal filming and non-stop selfies can enhance the concert experience for all involved.
Yondr founder Graham Dugoni was quoted in an article stating that his company's pouches were created for "phone-free spaces" where creativity and productivity could flourish without technology."
