Steve Harris, bassist and founder of IRON MAIDEN, has confirmed the release and touring history of his side project BRITISH LION. The band's second album, "The Burning", was released in January 2020 in digipack CD, double gatefold vinyl, and digital download formats through Explorer1 Music. The album was recorded, engineered, and mixed at Barnyard Studios by Tony Newton, with Steve Harris serving as producer.
BRITISH LION's first U.S. tour took place in January and February 2020. The tour featured the band's core lineup of singer Richard Taylor, guitarists David Hawkins and Grahame Leslie, and drummer Simon Dawson. Harris has emphasized the unique experience of playing small clubs, noting that he has never performed with IRON MAIDEN at venues like the Milky Way in Amsterdam or certain U.S. locations, which he considers a personal and challenging aspect of the band's live performances.
Harris stated that BRITISH LION has only released two albums due to his ongoing commitments with IRON MAIDEN, which require frequent touring and recording. Despite this, he has consistently integrated BRITISH LION into his schedule, particularly during breaks in MAIDEN tours. However, he confirmed that with drummer Simon Dawson now performing in IRON MAIDEN, such in-between shows are no longer feasible. Harris reiterated that the band's live performances remain driven by passion, with all members committed to delivering high-energy shows regardless of venue size or audience.
The band continues to perform, with Harris maintaining that both MAIDEN and BRITISH LION represent distinct yet equally vital parts of his musical journey.
