Christian hard rockers Skillet performed a new song called Scream during their headlining concert on Thursday (May 14) at Arena 8888 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Before launching into the track, Skillet vocalist/bassist John Cooper told the crowd that maybe they should play a new song not only for the first time but also just this once.

The song is set to release next month and will be the first people in the world to hear it.

According to Cooper, he wrote the song because the world has gone crazy and people are angry, breaking his heart to see what humans do to each other.

This aligns with statements made by Cooper in a December 2025 interview with The Sound Lab, where he confirmed that Skillet would release new music in 2026 and expressed hope for releasing songs they love and believe in.

In various interviews over the years, Cooper has spoken about his Christian faith and its influence on his life and career.

Skillet's latest album, Revolution, arrived in November 2024 via their Hear It Loud imprint.
